Student Athlete Advisory Committee
   
  The Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is the organization that represents student-athletes on the campus of Sacred Heart University.
   
  Purpose
   
 

1.   The purpose of SAAC is to represent the voice of student-athletes on the campus of Sacred  
      Heart University.

2.   To promote efficient communication with athletic department administration, coaches, faculty, 
      staff, student-athletes and campus personnel.

3.   To encourage involvement in all programs within the athletic department and campus.

4.   To create awareness of all programs within the athletic department and campus.

5.   To encourage a sense of community service and giving back to the community among student-
      athletes.

   
  Membership
   
  The membership shall be composed of two to three representatives of each varsity sports recognized by the athletic department as well as two student trainers, all of whom have the right to vote on issues.  The only team allowed more than three representatives will be the football team, due to the large number of participants. The representative from the football team may not exceed four members.  Each representative will serve as a liaison between SAAC and their respective team.  A representative that is leaving due to graduation or for any other reason and is an active member may choose their replacement.  However, approval from the coach of that respective team and the SAAC advisor is necessary before the replacement ca become a member.  A representative must stay a member for two years or on a continual basis until their eligibility as a full-time student athlete expires.  Freshmen may be general members however; they may not run for a position the Executive Board office.  One must be a member of a varsity sport for consideration in addition to being a full-time student-athlete.  There is no term limit for members, only officers
   
  Qualifications
   
 

The following are minimum requirements for membership to SAAC

1.  The grade point average for each member should be 2.5 or higher.  If a representative drops
     below the minimum GPA, the representative will be placed on probation for one semester.  If the
     representative does not meet the required GPA in subsequent semesters, he/she will be asked
     to resign as a member.

2.  All members must be full time students.

3.
  All members must be a member of a varsity sport or student athletic trainer.

4.
  No more than TWO (2) unexcused absences from meetings.  Excused absences are
     competition, practice, and illness, death in the family, meeting with a coach, advisor meeting or
     class.

5.  Representatives must report all information from the meetings to their respective team(s).

The representatives of the SAAC will elect officers each year.  The following is a list of officers and their duties:

1.  President: resides at all meetings and appoints a chairperson for each sub-committee that is
     established each academic year.  The President serves as the spokesperson for SAAC.

2.
  Vice President: serves as President when such person is unable to attend meetings of fulfill
     duties at anytime during the year.  The Vice President monitors each sub-committee and
     receives progress reports from each group.

3.
  Secretary: takes the minutes and attendance of each meeting.  He/she will be responsible for
     typing the agenda and minutes if each meeting.  Along with the advisor, the secretary will be
     responsible for communicating all information to the members and coaches.

4.
  Treasurer: is responsible for all the funds collected during the different events (i.e. fundraisers)
     as well as depositing such collections during the school year.

5.
  At large members:

Elections will take place annually, preferably at the end of the spring semester.  Only active members can run for an Executive Board position and vote for such election.

  Voting
   
 

All active representatives have the right to vote on any issue that may arise during a board meeting.  In order for an issue to pass, or an officer to be elected, a quorum must be present. 
A quorum is fifteen (15) active members present at such meeting.  Issues that arise dung sub-committee meetings, that require a vote my membership, will be voted on during the regularly scheduled meeting or as noted by the President.  One may send an alternate members in their place to any regularly scheduled meeting, sub-committee meeting, or called meeting, however he/she will not be able to vote on any issues.

   
  Amendments to the constitution
   
 

These articles may be amended by two-thirds (2/3) vote of the total membership, providing a quorum is available.  Fifteen (15) active members will constitute a quorum for the purposes of SAAC.
